Jojoba Oil
Jojoba Oil Jojoba oil (pronounced ho-ho-ba) is the liquid that comes from the seed of the (jojoba) plant, which is native to southern Arizona, southern California and northwestern Mexico.
Although called an oil, it’s actually primarily comprised of liquid wax esters that protects the plant from the harsh deserts environment where it grows. The Jojoba esters give it remarkable stability, an ability to protect whatever it contacts from oxidation and water loss, as well as very effective moisturizing properties that make the skin more radiant, smooth and supple.
The structure of the esters is very similar to sebum in human giving the Jojoba Oil natural affinity with human skin and an ability to balance sebum oils. Because unbalanced sebum oil production can cause acne and/or oily skin, Jojoba oil is well suited for acne prone and oily skin types.
In addition to these protecting esters, Jojoba Oil contains phytosterols, polyphenols and vitamin E all of which known as strong antioxidants and anti-aging phytochemicals (7) (8) (from prickly pear oil).
Finally, Jojoba oil has also been shown to have great anti-bacterial properties (11).
Not surprisingly, extensive research points towards its use against a variety of skin conditions including skin inflammation, dry skin, skin aging, as well as wound healing. (1) 6, 9, 10
